THIS IS GOING TO BE AMAZING
So a new Hawkeye series by Matt Fraction and David Aja.
PROS
- Matt Fraction can be a very good writer. Immortal Iron Fist was fantastic. Defenders #4 was an amazing Strange stand alone. Invincible Iron Man has been very good, and Thor has been Good. His one shots including the Young Avengers Presents featuring the female Hawkeye have been phenomenal.
- David Aja can draw. His cover is really good. His art is perfect and this is the first time I actually liked Hawkeye’s new costume.
-The premise is interesting. It involves him taking Kate Bishop, also Hawkeye, as a sidekick/protege. I am really glad they are using her after the Young Avengers developments and its actually an interesting concept. I want to see more of this.
- Hawkeye when written well can be pretty fun. Look at Hawkeye and Mockingbird by Jim Mcann.
CONS
- Matt Fraction has had a less than stellar track record recently. Uncanny was pretty bad, Fear Itself was soul crushing, and Defenders 1-3 were just bad.
-It probably wont last long even if it gets good reviews. Hawkeye has never been a sales star and knowing Marvel, David probably wont last long on the title but I can dream.
-Hawkeye can also be written poorly. And when written poorly…..he can be down right dreadful. And since I cant think of any prolonged Hawkeye by Fraction I am not sure what to think.
Verdict
Its worth a try. If the first issue is good than I will continue, if not I will drop it. At the very least, I know I will get great art.
